For most of us, transportation is a basic need. In this car-centric world, walking and public transit simply aren't viable ways to get to work, to go to the doctor, or to buy groceries. Our society is very nearly unlivable without a car.

We've all seen how a broken-down car can be the start of a spiral that leads to the loss of a job and the beginning of homelessness.
